ED raids ex-RG Kar principal’s farmhouse in financial fraud case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has raided the farmhouse of Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, in connection with suspected financial irregularities at the hospital during his tenure. ED officials are also searching the residence and nursing home of Dr Sudipta Roy, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Sreerampur and chairman of the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board, in North Kolkata.
Roy, who previously served as the chairman of the Patients’ Welfare Association at RG Kar, had his property raided by the CBI just days ago over a brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the Kolkata hospital. Now, the central probe agency is investigating him for alleged corruption.
Sudipta Roy, known to have close ties with Dr Sandip Ghosh, is currently at his residence, where he is being questioned by the ED officials regarding the RG Kar corruption case.
Ghosh is under investigation for alleged financial mismanagement and irregularities during his time as principal of RG Kar Medical College.
He had previously been questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the rape and murder of a doctor at the hospital on August 9, leading to his arrest in that case. The ED began its probe after college authorities filed a complaint accusing Ghosh of misappropriating funds meant for development and research projects at the institution.
Earlier this month, the central probe agency found documents related to at least seven properties during searches linked to Dr Sandip Ghosh in connection with financial irregularities. Sources indicated that the ED may attach these properties following the verification process.
